“Jackie 6” is the second album of music by Emil Memon, released by Dallas Records. Unlike his debut album, “Saintly Body”, which was largely the result of Covid isolation and featured tracks mostly written and recorded by Emil himself, “Jackie 6” celebrates the joy of collaboration with many of his musician friends, from New York City to Ljubljana. Most of the tracks were recorded at Konrad’s studio in DUMBO, Brooklyn. While, several more recent songs were recorded at Club Gromka in Metelkova, Ljubljana. Emil says he feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such an exceptional group of musicians, each of whom helped shape the sound of the album.
Musically, “Jackie 6” is remarkably diverse. Ranging from straightforward rock to dance, house and funk, all the way to jazz-influenced compositions. The songs are inspired by Emil’s experiences accumulated over many years as a visual artist living and working first in New York City and more recently in Ljubljana. The album’s themes are equally varied. There are politically charged songs such as “Family”, a call for revolution in the streets. And “It’s a Line”, a commentary on the inhumanity of contemporary politics. Other tracks explore the urban underbelly, including “Jackie 60” and “3rd St Av B / Junky Song”.
Themes of sexuality are addressed in “Blood / Vampire Song” and “Sensual Spiritual”, while art itself is the focus of “Pre-Raphaelite Girl” and “Abandoned Cinema”. Deeply personal reflections emerge in “On the Run – An American Song” and “Leonardo”, and “Dark Night” captures feelings of profound isolation and sadness. An important companion to the album is the outstanding music video for the single “Pre-Raphaelite Girl”. It is directed by New York-based filmmaker Pawel Wojtasik and starring Arisleyda Dilone.
